Douglas Adams (1952-2001): English writer, best known for 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'. He held a variety of jobs before making his breakthrough as a writer, including as a bodyguard. He was also a script editor on 'Doctor Who'. Adams was also an environmental activist, and a 'radical' atheist. He died of a heart attack, aged only 49.
